Philistines

Maksim Gorki

Philistines is a play written by Maxim Gorky in 1901 that comes across as if it had been written yesterday in terms of the setup of its central problem. It turns out that conflicts between generations never go away and the task of young people is to make it clear to older people what the best way to live is. Young people have always been decadent and older people cling excessively to their past. Gorky presages the Revolution of 1905 with his text. We do not yet know what kind of revolution the stage version of this play will bring with it in 2018.
