The Gaffer

This performance has two intermissions and lasts 3 hours and 15 minutes.

The Gaffer is an existential theatrical journey in the middle of an intriguing situation. The premiere of the play Anton Chekhov’s Story of Man is about to begin at the Tallinn affiliate of the Old Theatre. An extra technical rehearsal is in progress prior to the performance. The time is 16:23.

VIKTOR: Nerves have evoked a kind of temporary mutation of the brain’s frontal lobe.
GAFFER: What lobe?
VIKTOR: The same centre by which people fall in love.
GAFFER: Will it blow over by seven o’clock?

The characters are Victor the English philologist, Victoria the theatre manager, the actor Eino Truu, G the guest director from abroad, three university students, the stage manager, the lost lighting manager, the junior lighting designer, and then him as well.
