The Brothers Karamazov

Fjodor Dostojevski

The Brothers Karamazov” is such a thick book that most people can’t even manage to pick it up, let alone finish reading it. And yet, it is one of the most important novels in the world.
The plot is criminal in nature and it unfolds into a love drama. As such things usually pan out, the concerned parties are blind with rage and things are dead serious and yet the bystanders go back and forth between snickering and guffawing with laughter. And it would all seem inconsequential if there weren’t such serious issues at hand. Does love exist? Does God exist? Is everything allowed in the name of love? How much abuse can a proud soul take before an explosion tears the situation into pieces?
All of this is best seen through lively events. The viewer is spared from long, theological discussions and everything plays out through everyday, mundane details.
A grandiose drama about passion.
